The Department of Correctional Services says they are investigating a security breach at the Leeuwkop prison.
This is after two inmates escaped from the prison.
They later kidnapped an infant during a house robbery in Johannesburg.
Reacting officers say the men were armed with knives and threatened to harm the baby if security intervened.
They were arrested in Diepsloot after crashing the vehicle they had hijacked.
