Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Tilato #OurPerfectWedding

Ntombikayise (35) and Bongani (37) are both originally from Soweto, currently living in Fourways. Their paths first crossed when they attended the same high school. At that time, I was not dating any guys,” says Ntombikayise. “So after high school, we met in 2012. [I was] going shopping for my 3-year-old. It was going to be her birthday party. And then I met up with him. Crossing paths again has seemed to be exceptionally serendipitous. “I saw a lot of potential in her and all that was left was for me to ask her out,” says Bongani. “I was scared. I was afraid of rejection and all of that. But Ntombikayise says he wanted her phone number. She went a step further and invited him to her daughter’s party. “I asked him if he had a child. He said yes and I asked him to bring her. I was also single so I was hoping, like, you know….” She smiles broadly recalling the discussion.

Bongani says he knew he would have missed out if he didn’t ask her out. “So I took the chance because I loved her. He told me he would like for us to be in a relationship,” she says. “So I said let’s try it. Ntombikayise says she loves that he is patient and loving. “He knows how to calm me down. That’s what I love about him.

“What I love about Ntombi is that she’s a giving person,” says Bongani. “She is selfless. Like the day she only had R50 to her name, and she gave me R25 to see me through the day. That’s when my love for her grew stronger. I realised she was a keeper.

But he doesn’t like that she has a short temper. She doesn’t like that he is always telling her to relax. “He takes everything so lightly even if he knows trouble is looming. I don’t like that about him,” she says. She repeats the word relax while shaking her head. They have two children together, while Ntombikayise has one child outside of the marriage, and he has two others outside of their marriage.

“He didn’t propose,” she says. “Since we started dating, he has never called me his girlfriend. He’s always called me his wife. He kept telling me he would pay lobola and marry me. Then one day he told me he was ready to go to my family so we could get married. The married life is very nice because you’ve got a husband in the house. I feel secure knowing that there’s a man around looking after us. Bongani says he is also happy in his marriage. “I don’t have to do my own ironing anymore. Not that she’s forced to do it but because I know that I have a woman at home who loves me.
