City Power commits to restoring electricity to parts of Braamfontein on Thursday

City Power has committed to restoring electricity to parts of Braamfontein on Thursday.

Parktown, Newtown, and some parts of the city centre have been without power for eight days.

This is after a fire broke out in the tunnels under the M1 double-decker section on Wednesday morning, gutting underground cables.

Giving an update on Wednesday, City Power’s Charles Tlouane said electricity may be supplied rotationally in the meantime.

“We are hoping that when everyone else is restored, it will be on a rotational basis. So meaning we need to look at maybe feeding businesses during the day and then at night feed customers, or do it on a 4 to six-hour basis.”
