DIEPCITY actor Chrispen Nyathi said he celebrates his Royalty Soapie Awards nomination every day.
The actor, who plays Pastor Charles in the telenovela, said being recognised as an actor means that he does his work excellently.
He was nominated in the Outstanding Newcomer category along with Nompumelelo Vilakazi, Lebohang Mpyana, Luyanda Shezi (all from DiepCity), Na-Aymah Ally Samaai (Suidooster) and Chad Baai (Arendsvlei).
Speaking to Daily Sun, he said: “I didn’t expect the nomination, especially to awards like that. This is a huge achievement for me. I celebrate this nomination every day,” said the Zimbabwean actor, who is signed under Becky Casting Agency.
DiepCity is Chrispen’s first big gig.
He said he came to Mzansi in 2016 and worked in one of Mzansi’s big telenovelas as an extra.
“That was a learning journey for me because after that gig, I vowed not to work as an extra again. Then I looked for a casting agency because I wanted my rights as an actor to be protected. I then joined Becky Casting Agency which got me the gig in DiepCity. Here I am today, a nominee for big awards,” said Chrispen.
Although he celebrates his nomination, he said what scares him is the quality of actors that he is nominated along with.
“Some of them are my colleagues in DiepCity and I respect them so much. I know their worth and how much effort they put in their work. But even if I don’t get crowned, I will treat my nomination as the biggest highlight of my career. God is good all the time,” he said.
The fifth Royalty Soapie Awards nominees were announced last Wednesday on SABC 1 where DiepCity dominated the nominees list.
Winners will be announced at a ceremony in Joburg on 18 September. The ceremony will be broadcast on SABC on 2 October.
