The club has been linked with a series of coaches from Roberto De Zerbi, Thomas Frank, Enzo Maresca, to Ipswich’s manager Kieran McKenna.

According to reports on Monday, Chelsea have now narrowed down the shortlist to two candidates with Enzo Maresca and Brentford’s Thomas Frank making it to the final stage.

Maresca is the leading candidate and he is expected to be named the new Chelsea coach this week.

The 44-year-old Italian manager led Leicester City to the Championship title culminating in an immediate return to the Premier League. He has also expressed interest in becoming the head coach at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea called Kieran McKenna on Sunday night to inform him that he didn’t make it to the final list of their managerial search, while the club are advancing in negotiations with Maresca and also discussing with Leicester City.

Transfer market expert, Fabrizio Romano confirmed Maresca’s imminent move to Chelsea.

He wrote on X, “Chelsea are advancing in talks to appoint Enzo Maresca as new head coach.

“Positive talks over the weekend, he’s 100 per cent keen and excited by Chelsea’s project.

“No issues on Maresca’s contract already being discussed — talks to follow with Leicester City over €10m compensation fee.”

Maresca served as Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City for a year before departing for Leicester City last summer.

Chelsea have been impressed by the depth and breadth of his knowledge about their squad in talks with his representatives.
