2 foreign nationals sentenced for cable theft

Two Zimbabwean nationals have been sentenced to 10 years in jail.

They were charged with tampering with essential rail infrastructure.

Namer Ndlovu and Collen Singanje were caught with eight signal cables in December 2020.

The copper is believed to have been stolen at Eskia Mpahlane Drive in the Wonderboom area.

The cables are valued at R300,000 each, but the crime cost Prasa over R800,000.

Transnet Freight Rail is at war with vandals and thieves.

It’s estimated that over R40-billion is lost annually due to cable theft.
