A woman in North Carolina, USA, died after being trapped inside an industrial bread machine for more than an hour.
Virginia López Severiano (44) was cleaning an industrial food mixer, used to make bread, when half her body became trapped inside the machine.
When EMS arrived on the scene on Tuesday, 3 May, they spent nearly 90 minutes working to free López Severiano.
In a statement, the Selma Fire Department said: “We basically took the machine apart in order to get the woman out.”
Fire chief Phillip McDaniel told WRAL that it took “small tools” to complete the “tedious rescue” that released the worker. He said the machine appeared to be on when López Severiano started cleaning.
According to the New York Post, after being freed, López Severiano was airlifted to Duke University Hospital, where doctors were planning to operate on her arm. She died from her injuries that night.
