An accused in the Senzo Meyiwa trial has been at pains to rectify a version presented by his lawyer on the details of his alleged assaults by police.
Bongani Ntanzi spent the day on the witness stand testifying against the admission of his signed confession statements.
Ntanzi claims he was tortured into signing a confession days after his arrest in June 2020, and tricked into signing another.
He is one of five men accused of the Bafana Bafana captain’s murder almost a decade ago.
There’s a lot that Thulani Mngomezulu presented on behalf of Ntanzi that he has now distanced himself from or has not mentioned.
Like how Ntanzi was allegedly assaulted by police outside the Sibanye Mine where he worked in Carltonville the day after his arrest.
Monday’s prosecutor Ronnie Sibanda honed in on Ntanzi’s alleged assault on Ring Road in Alberton, another version that Ntanzi has disputed.
Ronnie: “The version that was put was that the accused was taken from those steel pipes where he was assaulted and electrocuted.”
Ntanzi: “My lord, I was assaulted where I saw a board that said Orlando. I still stand by this.”
While Sergent Vusimuzi Mogane had testified that they stopped at the New Market Mall for water and snacks, Mngomezulu had argued there was no mall in 2020, and that it was an open field where Ntanzi was assaulted.
