JSE fines former Steinhoff CFO Ben la Grange

The Johannesburg Stock Exchange has come down on former Steinhoff Chief Financial Officer Ben la Grange. It disqualified him from acting as a company director for 10 years and fined him a total of R2m.

This is because he processed a fictitious hand-written invoice for more than R376m. The invoice was handed to him by disgraced former Steinhoff CEO Markus Jooste in 2016. Steinhoff’s share price crashed in December 2017 after reports of accounting fraud.

The JSE found that La Grange, who said he was not aware the invoice was false, should have tried harder to check if it was genuine.
