Royal AM chairman Andile Mpisane trains, set to make PSL appearance – Video

Royal AM Football Club chairman Andile Mpisane is set to write history in his vivid life. Despite being out of shape, he is set to make a Premier Soccer League (PSL) debut next year.

Andile was filmed jogging in the neighbourhood of La Lucia in Durban. Sources revealed Andile targets to return to the football pitch next year once the status of the club’s chances on the trophy is clear, given they look safe from relegation. His team is performing better than expected, sitting fourth on the log, seven points adrift of title holders Mamelodi Sundowns.

The flamboyant son of millionaire businesswoman Shauwn Mkhize appeared last year in the GladAfrica Championship as a substitute in their 3-1 over Uthongathi. His debut came after he announced himself as his club’s newest signing.

Videos of his debut went viral on social media as he struggled to keep up with the game’s pace. He attempted a few tricks to unsettle his opponents, but he didn’t convince Mzansi that he was a footballing prospect.

Andile will join the likes of Bobby Motaung of Kaizer Chiefs as children of football club owners to play in South Africa’s top flight.

Royal AM remains silent on whether they will register Andile as a player or not. Earlier during the season, club manager Richard Makhoba refused to shed more light if the fans would witness the first club chairman and player in the history of the PSL. He said he only talked about Andile as the club chairman as he was sitting in the stands.

At 19 years of age, Andile is the youngest chairman in the PSL. After her mother bought KZN club Royal Kings, he assumed the club top post and renamed it Royal AM FC after his son’s initials. Mkhize is the president of the club.

His reign has been dramatic. The PSL recently charged Andile and his management for bringing cash on the field to pay their players’ winning bonuses. Mkhize was unfazed by the decision of the PSL to charge them as she sought to correct her soiled image. The media wrote stories claiming that she could not pay her players salaries and bonuses in time.
