KZN government requests state funeral for AmaZulu Regent

KwaZulu-Natal premier Sihle Zikalala has asked President Cyril Ramaphosa to grant a state funeral for the late AmaZulu Regent.

Queen Mantfombi Dlamini Zulu passed away unexpectedly, earlier this week.

Provincial government spokesperson Lennox Mabaso says the application is being considered.

It’s also asking the nation to observe the mourning period.

“Her Majesty’s passing has traumatized the entire nation which had barely recovered from the colossal demise of His Majesty, King Zwelithini kaBhekuZulu,” Mabaso said.

“Premier Sihle Zikalala and the Provincial Government wish to appeal to all citizens to put the Zulu Royal Family in prayer as they navigate these extraordinary and painful times.

“The nation is asked to observe the period of mourning. The government appreciates the outpouring of support the citizens are giving to the Royal Family and the entire Zulu Nation.”
