Woman airlifted to safety

Gauteng: At 16H56 Saturday afternoon Netcare 911 responded to the Magaliesburg Mountain range for an adult female who had slipped and fractured her right ankle.

Netcare 911 with the Mountain Club of South Africa, Off-Road Rescue Unit, Mogale Fire and Rescue Services and The Oostermoed Protection Services hiked to where the patient was located.

When the rescue teams arrived on the scene they found the patient in severe pain and suffering from hypothermia due to the inclement weather.

Due to the nature of the terrain and safety considerations, the assistance of the South African Air Force was requested.

The patient was stabilised on the scene while a 17 Squadron Oryx Helicopter made its way to the extraction point.

The injured lady was hoisted into the Helicopter and transported under the care of an advanced life support paramedic to hospital for further care.
