The Top 10 African Teams In Latest FIFA Rankings

FIFA have announced the latest world rankings, which will impact the upcoming draw for the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification, and there have been a host of changes among the top African teams, with Bafana Bafana still outside the top 10. Stuart Baxter’s side moved up two places into 70th position and 13th on the continent after their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations ended in the quarter-finals.

Ivory Coast

Meanwhile, Afcon champions Algeria, who won their second continental title after 1990, made the biggest climb world-wide, jumping up 28 places into 40th overall and fourth in Africa.

Congo DR

Runners-up Senegal remained the highest-ranked African nation and moved up two spots into 20th. Semi-finalists Tunisia, who sit in 29th position, and Nigeria, after rising into 33rd, complete the top three in Africa.

Cameroon

Morocco moved up six places in the overall rankings and are fifth in Africa followed by Egypt, who climbed nine spots despite Bafana ending their Afcon hopes in the last-16.

Ghana

Ghana remained in 50th place world-wide after winning just one game at the African showpiece before Cameroon, in 53rd, Congo DR, in 56th, and Ivory Coast, in 57th, complete the top 10. Morocco

Mali, who appear in 59th and Burkina Faso in 61st are also still ahead of South Africa in the continental rankings.

Algeria

The draw of the African qualification groups for the 2022 is set to take place on Monday, with Bafana only entering the second round after sitting among the top 26 teams on the continent.
