The Royalty Soapie Awards are back!
The awards founded by businesswoman and actress Winnie Ntshaba have not been held for two years.
She said: “I am happy that the prestigious awards are back. The talented queens and kings in the acting industry will be crowned and recognised.”
Winnie said there would be new developments in the awards.
“We will establish the Royalty Soapie Foundation to help talented young people as well as people living with disabilities to have access to education and the film industry.”
Eligible entries will include soapies and telenovelas aired on South African television screens between 1 August last year and 30 August this year.
They were last held in 2015.
Winnie, who shot to fame for her role as Khethiwe on Generations, announced last Thursday that the awards will be back next year.
The grapevine has it that the awards were canned due to lack of sponsors.
However, Winnie said the awards, established in 2014, were taking a break due to other challenges.
Entries opened last Thursday and will close on 30 November.
The awards will be held on 17 March at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre in Durban.
