Support floods in for the Springboks

Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu and his wife Leah are among the thousands of South Africans wishing the Springboks well ahead of their Rugby World Cup final match against England on Saturday.

In a message posted on his foundation’s page, Tutu said: “Captain of the nation, Siya Kolisi, ou Rassie, Chessie, en all the manne: Siyabulela! Ngiyabonga! Thank you!

“Your dignity, diversity, and courage are infectious. You have restored South African rugby’s pride, and made us all feel good about ourselves.”

Tutu went on to tell the team that they have already won.

“… if you feel weightless when you run onto that Yokohama field on Saturday, it will be because you are being carried by the love, respect, and prayers of 56 million of us at home.”

Before leaving for Japan on Thursday night, President Cyril Ramaphosa said he was excited to visit the Springboks ahead of their game to give them “a lot of encouragement and vooma” from South Africans in their “titanic battle with the english”.

The president said he hoped that South Africa will annihilate the English and bring the Web Ellis Trophy home.

A number of South Africa’s top sporting teams have sent their best wishes to the Boks.
