Boity on her journey as a Sangoma: It’s slightly scary

Boity Thulo has been unapologetic about her spirituality.

Speaking as a guest alongside Gogo Dineo Ndlandzi on Metro FM’s Fresh Breakfast, the media personality revealed that Boity and Gogo Boitumelo are two different people.

“For me it’s very important for people to understand that Boity is my work, that’s my workspace regardless of me being a celebrity. That’s still my job,” she began.

“Boitumelo Thulo is who I am. That’s my personal life, another life…As much as I’ve shown people both sides, it was to share that it is possible. You can be both. Boity is just a job…There’s no conflict as long as you know how to separate the two,” she explained.

When asked whether her journey to becoming a sangoma was scary, the 28-year-old revealed that it was rather daunting but with the right people by her side, all went well.

“It’s slightly scary because you have a lot of questions and you also ask yourself, ‘Am I supposed to really be here? Am I doing the right thing?’ that’s why it’s very important to surround yourself with people who are going to guide you wholeheartedly, truthfully and authentically. It wasn’t hard but it was daunting because it was a long journey.”

Speaking on the difficulties she’s faced on her journey, Boity also revealed that she had met a lot of chancers while seeking to understand her spirituality.

“My hardest part was finding someone authentic who would walk me through this and teach me without including Boity in the mix and not being affected by the Boity.

“…But I think those chance takers were there to prepare me for the path. I had to go through the foolishness to get me to this point.”
