The Red Ants company has reassured Senzo Meyiwa’s daughter, Namhla, it will continue supporting her.
Representatives said this during a visit to the family in Umlazi, south of Durban, on Wednesday, 22 September.
During the visit, they also visited Namhla’s school to meet her and her teachers to find out how things were going.
The visit came after Namhla’s gogo and guardian, Ntombifuthi Meyiwa, told the publication at the beginning of September that the company had dropped her.
The company had been donating money to Namhla for her basic needs since February 2020.
When Ntombifuthi recently discovered she was not getting phone updates that the money had been deposited into her account, she checked with the company. She was told owner Johan Bosch, who was making the donations, had died.
Company spokesman Oupa Radebe said: “During our visit, we established that the gogo’s phone had a problem. It didn’t report that money had been deposited. In actual fact, the money was deposited into her account on 9 September.”
Radebe said the person who answered the phone told Ntombifuthi they didn’t know what was going on because they had just buried Bosch.
“The gogo then assumed this meant Namhla would not be assisted anymore.
“We wanted to reassure the gogo that we are still going to assist Namhla,” he said.
Radebe said during the visit, they learnt Namhla had to walk for an hour to get to school and they would see how they could assist with transport money.
Ntombifuthi said: “We had a miscommunication but we managed to sort it out.
They even gave Namhla R1 500 in cash to spoil herself.”
However, she said the money had not reached her bank account.
“According to the bank slip, the transaction was made on 1 September but we have not received it. I will be checking with the bank to see why it is still not there,” she said.
