SABC’s COO Craig Van Rooyen has resigned

The SABC’s acting Chief Operating Officer has resigned. According to the broadcaster, Craig Van Rooyen has resigned for personal and family reasons.

He was appointed in April when Chris Maroleng was fired for gross negligence. Maroleng took over from the controversial Hlaudi Motsoeneng who was fired in June 2017.

Van Rooyen says that his decision to leave was difficult and that he’s confident the public broadcaster will overcome its problems. He’ll be leaving in September.

Malunga started his seven-year tenure as a deputy to former public protector Thuli Madonsela in December 2012.
