SA travellers stranded in Hong Kong

Hong Kong’s airport authorities have obtained an interim injunction seeking to restrain protesters from unlawfully and willfully obstructing operations at the international airport.

The interdict comes after another day of disruptions and violent clashes between police and protesters. On Tuesday, the airport resumed operations and rescheduled disrupted flights.

SAA spokesperson Tlali Tlali said they have been notified there are South Africans stranded in Hong Kong.

He says the airline is working on recovering its schedule and assisting passengers.

The protests were sparked by a bill that would allow the extradition of offenders to mainland China. Protestors have since escalated it into a call for greater democracy in the region.
