SA COVID-19 cases rise to 579 140

The Health Department released the latest COVID-19 numbers.

In the last 24 hours, 286 COVID-19 related deaths have been reported, bringing the countrywide death toll to 11,556.

Gauteng had the highest number of deaths, with 76 reported.

In KwaZulu-Natal 54 people died, 42 from the Eastern Cape, 28 from the Western Cape, 26 from the North West, 22 in Mpumalanga, 20 from the Free State, and 18 from the Northern Cape.

The department confirmed 6,275 new cases, bringing the total number of infections to 579,140.

Gauteng is fast approaching the 200,000 case mark.

The recovery rate is now at 79 percent with the total number of tests conducted to date at 3,351,111.

More than 461,000 patients have recovered from the virus.
