Technical Engineering Work – 15%
Read and interpret mechanical, electrical and architectural drawings
Responsible for the electrical wiring of installations
Trace faults and fix them
Keeps records of work done Prepare maintenance schedule for regular cleaning and maintenance of all HVAC systems and sub-systems on-site
Attend to emergency repairs as required, sometimes outside of normal working hours.
Installation, fitting and assembly of HVAC systems
Determine the correct BTU requirements for an HVAC system – considering the size and height of a particular room/office/shelter, number of doors, windows and other openings, other cooling or heat giving equipment that may be in the same room/office/shelter.
Ensure BTU requirements meet the requirements of the client and is the most energy-efficient option available
Calculate heat load, air flow rates, ventilation rates and other calculations required for HVAC systems
Install HVAC ductwork including flexible tubing and sheet metal construction
Repair and maintain HVAC systems
Troubleshoot, repair/replacement of worn/faulty components or equipment, including motors, switches, pumps, wiring, thermostats and fans
Adherence to Client Specification – 20%
Understanding and obtaining the correct items and equipment as specified (sign off customer specification sheet, factory acceptance test)
Ensuring correctness of measurements and material quantities
Consistency between initial quote and final delivered service/goods from a cost specification and schedule perspective (less than +/-10% variance)
Aim to achieve zero snag list items, i.e. perform pre-commissioning inspections to ensure compliance to customer standards
Aim to achieve zero customer complaints
Compliance with Schedule Requirements – 25%
Identifying potential challenges and proposing solutions to address them on time before schedule overruns
Ensuring that each project/task order does not overrun. Failure in this regard will be taken in a serious light
Respond to emergency callouts within one hour of receiving the call
Contribution to Company Profitability – 40%
Prevent wasteful expenditure – exercise frugality in dealing with company resources, i.e. fuel, petty cash, project materials, use of vehicles
Ensure efficiency and effectiveness in all dealings. Profitable outcomes need to be obtained, whether on one job card, or a long-term project
Weekly reports on the number of received and COMPLETED job cards/task orders- completion and updating of tracking sheet
Desired Qualification & Experience
National Certificate (Engineering Studies) N1, 2 and N3
Trade Test in Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration or HVAC (A must)
Registered Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Artisan or qualification registered with the MERSETA (A must)
2-5 years’ experience as an HVAC Technician performing the duties listed above
Knowledge:
Knowledge of OHS Act and ISO 9001 regulations (Quality)
Adhere to all health and safety regulations and policies
Solder and coppers welding equipment
Skills / Competencies
Ms Office Packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Ability to communicate on different levels
Report writing skills
