PSL club interested in the services of Benni McCarthy

Chippa are on the lookout for a new head coach after confirming the departure of Mokwena, whose initial short-term loan deal from Orlando Pirates has come to an end.

With the 2019/20 campaign set for a return in the coming weeks, The Chilli Boys are in a race against time to bring someone in, though there are various options in terms of former PSL coaches currently without a job.

This website has it on good authority that club boss Siviwe Mpengesi has earmarked McCarthy, who has been without a job since leaving Cape Town City in November last year.

The former Bafana Bafana striker is currently in Scotland and, according to a source, will require plenty of convincing if he is to so much as consider joining the Port Elizabeth outfit.

The source explains that Chippa’s history of hiring and firing coaches at the drop of a hat is a massive repellent for the 42-year-old, who could be risking his reputation early on in his coaching career.

Currently 12th on the Absa Premiership log table and just three points off the relegation playoff spot, with six games still to play in the campaign, the new coach would be tasked with saving the club from the dreaded drop.

At present, former defender and current MultiChoice Diski Challenge coach Mbuyiselo Sambu has taken the interim reins of the club’s senior team.
