Unions call for minister Pravin Gordhan to be removed

Unions Numsa and Sacca are accusing the Public Enterprise Department of mismanaging the restructuring of South African Airways.

They say the business rescue practitioners and the department are trying to extort money from workers.

The unions claim workers are being forced to accept a proposal that will only give them three months’ pay and a 13th cheque.

Pravin Gordhan

Workers have allegedly been told this offer will ensure the long term viability of the airline. The unions are asking President Cyril Ramaphosa to intervene and for Minister Pravin Gordhan to be removed.

Workers have been given until the close of business on Friday to accept the offer. Unions are threatening legal action.
