Portia Modise Launches Portia Modise Foundation and Coaching Clinics

29 March 2021 – Johannesburg:  Former Banyana Banyana Captain, Portia Modise launched the Portia Modise Foundation and Academy on Saturday, 27 March 2021 at the Kopanong Sports Grounds in Dobsonville, Soweto.

The foundation aims to connect the dots in women’s football through football development programmes, mentoring, training, and community outreach initiatives. The foundation kicked-off with a coaching clinic conducted by former players including Fikile Sithole, Agnes Nkosi, Khabo Zitha, Pinky Matjekane, Sibongile Khumalo, Thando Dlamini, Zanele Suzaki, Thoko Mndaweni and current player Andile Dlamini.

The coaching clinic was attended by 100 young girls from various football clubs in the surrounding areas namely, Mito Stars, Hotspurs Ladies, United Ladies, Diepkloof Ladies and Vuyo FC.

“As women’s football in the country continues to face challenges, it’s now upon us former players to unlock greater resources for the current and upcoming young players. The foundation’s mission is to advocate for participation and recognition for women in football by empowering our players through life skills and leadership opportunities,” say Portia Modise.

Having scored 102 goals for Banyana Banyana, making her a true legend of women’s football in South Africa, Modise wants to change the psyche of players and make an impactful contribution to the development of women in football.

“We are thankful for the support from the National Lotteries Commission as we are now focusing our work and efforts to landing a helping hand in equipping women in football with necessary tools ranging from sporting equipment, sporting gear and conducting training sessions,” adds Modise.
