Polokwane City 1 – 1 Highlands Park #AbsaPrem

Polokwane City moved off the foot of the Absa Premiership table after playing to a 1-1 draw with Highlands Park on Saturday afternoon.

However, Peter Shalulile moved level with Gabadinho Mhango in the Golden Boot race after salvaging a point for Highlands Park against Polokwane City.

Neither side could get their passing rhythm going in the early stages but the Lions of the North had a chance to go ahead in the 17th minute, with Wayde Jooste receiving a cross unmarked at the back post but his shot was punched away by George Chigova.

Five minutes later, Mlungisi Mbunjana also had a chance to break the deadlock for Highlands with a free-kick from outside the box but Chigova was at the right place to make the save at the top corner.

Clinton Larsen’s charges were getting into the game with threatening counter-attacks in the latter phase of the first stanza but they were not clinical with half-chances inside the box.

After a goalless first half, City came back from the break with a sense of urgency and they eventually broke the deadlock in the 65th minute after a cross by Mvelase came off Mzava at the near post and sailed into the back of the net.

Da Gama’s troops levelled matters with 16 minutes left after Shalulile glanced home a header to the far post from a corner by Lindokuhle Mbatha for his 14th league goal of the season.

Shalulile came close to grabbing the lead for Highlands two minutes later with a snap-shot from a cross inside the box that was brilliantly saved by Chigova at the near post.

Highlands had the momentum in the latter phase but Polokwane managed to hold on for a point and moved up to 15th spot with a better while the Lions of the North jumped to seventh.
