Rights groups say they’re appalled by attempts to amend the Political Party Funding Act.
The cash-strapped ANC is proposing changes to the law that came into effect in April last year.
It says political parties have less capacity to mobilize resources for their activities.
The organization hasn’t paid its staff members for months.
Among the proposed changes is to raise the annual disclosure threshold.
But My Vote Counts says the law should only be amended if it is found to be unconstitutional.
It says the existing law should rather be strengthened to prevent secrecy in politics.
