Pirates transfer news: Five players linked with the Buccaneers

The transfer window beckons and, like every other club, Orlando Pirates will be looking to bring in some reinforcements as they seek to contend for silverware ahead of the new season.

The Buccaneers are not shy of making mass signings, having brought on numerous additions to their squad in the past two seasons.

Having seen some promising performances under new coach, Josef Zinnbauer, the Soweto giants will be looking to build on this year’s success, and that will require some new additions to their playing personnel.

Here are some of the players Pirates have been linked with in recent weeks.

THULANI HLATSHWAYO – BIDVEST WITS

Several reports say that the deal is done, but the Buccaneers remain mum on whether or not they have signed the Bafana captain.

Hlatshwayo is one of a few Wits players who will be eyeing a move after the club was sold earlier in the month.

RICHARD OFORI – MARITZBURG UNITED

Like Hlatshwayo, the Maritzburg United shot-stopper has long been linked with a move to Orlando Pirates.

The Soweto giants are, however, said to have some competition for his services in the form of Mamelodi Sundowns.

BRANDON PETERSON – BIDVEST WITS

Another keeper said to be firmly in the Pirates’ sights is Brandon Peterson of Bidvest Wits, who has admitted to not being too keen on moving to Venda.

The Buccaneers are well stocked in the goalkeeping department but, with first-choice option Wayne Sandilands approaching 40, the 25-year-old could be the one to carry the mantle for a long time to come.

SIYANDA XULU – MARITZBURG UNITED

Siyanda Xulu

Bafana defender Siyanda Xulu could be one of a select few to have represented South Africa’s “big three”, having already turned out in Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs colours.

Now with the KwaZulu-Natal outfit, the 28-year-old is in his prime and has reportedly attracted interest from Orlando Pirates and Supersport United.

BRADLEY GROBLER – SUPERSPORT UNITED

Another department Pirates are seemingly well-stocked in is up front but, with Gabadinho Mhango and Justin Shonga linked with moves abroad, they could rekindle their interest in the Bafana frontman.
