As much as we appreciate South African entertainment, we never really take time out to celebrate our local actresses, their hard work and talent. Here is GLAMOUR’s list of local actresses doing the most on screens all over Mzansi right now.
Natasha Thahane
The 25-year-old actress and beauty from Orlando East, Soweto was best known for her role as Enhle in popular SABC 1 soapie, Skeem Saam.
The director and New York Film Academy alumni is definitely a leading woman we should keep an eye on.
Gugu Gumede
This South African star is currently known for her role as devout Christian woman MaMlambo in SABC 1 hit show Uzalo. The series follows the story of two-family dynasties, the Mdletshes and the Xulus, who are on a collision course that will eventually lead to the discovery of a terrible secret.
Gugu studied acting and drama at the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Los Angeles and returned to South Africa in 2013. The actress has also worked on Generations where she starred as Mandisa.
Amanda Du-Pont
Amanda Du-Pont has portrayed many of our favourite characters over the years that include Senna in the CW drama series Life is Wild and Sharon in the SABC 3 comedy-drama Taryn & Sharon and now Ashley in the Netflix thriller series Shadow.
She is also famous for her role as Lelo in local tv drama that follows the lives of three boys who grapple with tough conflicts. This actress, model and television host is definitely one of our favourite women to watch on screen.
Nadia Herbst
Actress and singer Nadia Herbst is on the rise. The former Idols SA top ten contestant is now creating a stir on the popular South African soap, 7de Laan, as the sexxy and intelligent Olivia.
She is definitely one of our favourite actresses on tv right now.
Hildegardt Silkiewicz
Straight out of Nieuwoudtville, Hildegardt Silkiewicz has been rated 7de Laan’s most popular character and Favourite Newcomer on Television at the YOU Spectacular Awards.
The stunning actress plays Bonita, a stranger who arrived in Hillside under sketchy conditions and was saved by love.
Zenande Mfenyana
The 33-year-old South African actress is best known for her past role as Noluntu Memela on popular soap Generations and now plays the strong black Goodness Mabuza in trending television series, The Queen.
The plot of the show is based on the Khoza family who are drug lords who hide their dealings behind a logistics company.
