Orlando Pirates have extended their winless run in the Absa Premiership to five matches after 1-1 draw with relegation-threatened Baroka FC.
Thembinkosi Lorch had his suspension lifted by Pirates but started on the bench as Tshegofatso Mabasa partnered Gabadinho Mhango up top with Luvuyo Memela dropped.
Mabasa immediately repaid the faith shown in him by Josef Zinnbauer after capitalising on a misplaced pass to fire home from a tight angle after good pressing from Mhango on 16 minutes.
The goal ended the Buccaneers’ goal-drought and a second nearly came a soon after, but Fortune Makaringe drew blanks while Manuel Kambala squandered an earlier opening for Bakgaga at the other end.
Wayne Sandilands was at full stretch a minute to the half-hour mark as he palmed Goodman Mosele’s thumping volley from outside the area to safety.
Bakgaga did manage to level matters seven minutes before halftime when Evidence Makgopa charged in at the near post to tuck home from close-range, although replays showed the striker was offside.
