Sizwe Nxasana resigns from NSFAS

Sizwe Nxasana has resigned as chairperson and member of the board of the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NFSAS).

In a statement, the businessman admits that the last few years at NFSAS have been extremely challenging.

He said funding obligations have increased, placing strain on systems and processes.

But, Nxasana said he’s grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the higher education sector.

“While the last few years have been extremely challenging, I am grateful for the opportunity to have been able to immerse myself in education and contribute to finding sustainable solutions for the higher education sector. I am passionate about helping our youth access education and want to recognise the many thousands of students whose success inspire all of us and give us hope for the future,” he said.

He said he believes one of the scheme’s greatest achievements has been this year’s financing of 400,000 students.
