South African actress Nomvelo Makhanya was introduced to the country as the spoiled and troubled Lindiwe Ngema on e.TV’s Scandal! However, after a decade of playing the character, in 2022, Makhanya surprised many when it was confirmed that she was leaving the soapie.
At the time, it was believed that she was leaving the soapie due to jealousy by her boyfriend considering that she had matured within the world of the story. However, Nomvelo following the confirmation of her exit has made it clear that the decision to leave the soapie was entirely her own. As reported:
“I’m definitely not looking to be going into any “soapie” work anytime soon…I want to explore other things & being on a soapie won’t give me the time to do what I want. But also, if it’s part of God’s plan for me to be on a soapie, I’d probably stay for 6-12 months max,” wrote IndAfrica.
While she initially was coy about her reasoning for leaving the show, it took a couple of months for Makhanya to reveal the real reason she was ready to leave. Firstly, she asserted that the decision was not hers and that the soapie had written her out of the story without her knowledge.
But then she went to share that:
“I have been wanting to leave, I have been wanting to leave that place. For me, it was something I have been praying about. When it finally happened it really really felt like God was removing me from that toxic, toxic environment,” said Nomvelo Makhanya.
At the time, e.TV and the soapie had denied any knowledge of having a toxic work area. However, in light of the recent scandal, it seems that Nomvelo might have been right after all. As reported recently:
The show recently announced that Sello Sebotsane’s ex-wife Shoki Mmola, had joined the show as Reverend Prudence Molepo. According to the show, Prudence is a woman of the cloth who has wholly given her life to the faith. She holds herself in high regard and expects others to do the same for themselves.
But, she stands on moral high ground to mask her own flaws. The Reverend is a strict mother and can often be too hard on her children. In her eyes, they cannot be failures because they were birthed by a woman who is moulded in the image of God.
Avid watchers of the show are appalled by Scandal’s decision to cast Sebotsana after he was accused of domestic violence…
Shoki and Sello were married for 10 years, until their nasty split in 2018, after abuse allegations leveled against Sebotsane. During a recent interview with Drum Magazine, she revealed that she and her children suffered abuse during the marriage.
But one person who is not surprised and is actually gloating about the matter is none other than Nomvelo. The star took to Twitter to share a subtly shady post about everything done in the dark coming into the light, which can be assumed was a dig at the naysayers about her own claims.

She then went on to suggest that the hiring of Sebotsana was justified in the minds of the producers because “birds of a feather…” Going on to suggest that the soapie with their statement refuting her own claims was gaslighting at the time.
