Nolubabalo Nobanda details how she was busted with drugs in her dreadlocks

Convicted drug mule Nolubabalo Babsie Nobanda claims she was lured into trafficking drugs by a promise of an all-expense-paid holiday to Brazil. Nobanda says she had no clue her final destination would be Thailand.

“There was no mention of Thailand when I left South Africa, we were taking a holiday to Brazil,” Nobanda said. She says it’s only when she arrived in Brazil that she found out that she would be transporting a package to Thailand.

Nobanda was then busted at Bangkok Airport in Thailand with 1.5-kg of cocaine stuffed in her dreadlocks in 2011. I think I had over 30 pieces on my head filled with the cocaine but even after ten pieces I was in excruciating pain, it’s heavy and it’s tight,” she said.
Nobanda returned to South Africa last week after serving seven years of her 15-year sentence in a Thai prison.

South Africans are divided about her high profile welcome back home. Nobanda responded to the criticism. She said she doesn’t think people have been congratulating her for her actions but those who support her, understand people make mistakes. It’s a chance for others to understand where they can go wrong, what to avoid,” she said.

I want my life to be about, don’t be like Babsie, watch out. Don’t be so naive,” Nobanda said. Nobanda also stated she would be starting in her own community, empowering people with information on how to avoid making the same mistakes.
