Mzansi Kwaito and House Music Awards prove Kwaito isn’t dead. The glitzy event held at Carnival City was hosted by entrepreneur, radio and TV personality, DJ Sbu.

The third edition of the Mzansi Kwaito and House Music Awards finally began on Saturday night after a rocky start earlier this year.

The biggest winner on the night was singer-songwriter and poet Busiswa, who was born in Mthatha in the Eastern Cape. She walked away with the Best House Single Album – Bazoyenza.

DJ SbuShe rose to fame when she was featured on DJ Zinhle’s hit, My Name Is and went on to dominate the music scene with other songs such as Ngoku, and her latest feature with Prince Kaybee, who also won an award under the Best House DJ category.

Busiswa GquluThe biggest honour of the night was the Lifetime Achievement award for Doc Shebeleza for his outstanding contribution to the industry. The awards ceremony aimed to reiterate the point that Kwaito was not dead, a message repeated at every available opportunity.

Doc ShebelezaThe dress code was elegant suits, glamorous dresses and sneakers in keeping with the pantsula lifestyle.

Guests came out looking the part in true Kwaito style, and performances by Busiswa, Spikiri, Skhokho and Mshoza closed the night.
