Mason Greenwood will not train or play matches after he’s accused of assaulting his girlfriend

Mason Greenwood will not play or train for Manchester United until further notice following allegations made against him on social media, the club has confirmed.

United said in a short statement: “Mason Greenwood will not return to training or play matches until further notice.”

The striker was accused by a woman on Sunday morning of assaulting her. Video, photos, and an audio recording were posted on the woman’s Instagram account before being deleted.

Greater Manchester Police said it was “aware of images and videos circulating on social media”.

Greenwood, 20, made his United debut in March 2019 and signed a new long-term contract in January last year. He has played 129 times, scoring 35 goals for the club, and was capped by England in September 2020.
