Who has the firepower to stop The Brazilians? Mamelodi Sundowns continued with their impressive dominance in the Absa Premiership when they thumped Bidvest Wits 2-0 at the Loftus Stadium on Saturday evening to move six points clear of second-placed Orlando Pirates.
The victory put the destiny of the League title firmly in their hands in the two-horse race against Pirates who suffered a major setback when they dropped two vital points in their goalless draw with SuperSport United midweek.
Themba Zwane and Sibusiso Vilakazi ensure that they Downs get all the points as they scored both goals of the match in the first half.
Zwane unleashed a pile-driver for Masandawana in the 15th minute from just outside the box but The Clever Boys shot-stopper Darren Keet was able to save the strike.
In the 20th minute, Zwane got the opener for the hosts with a strike inside the box following a defence-splitting pass from Percy Tau, 1-0.
Vilakazi doubled the lead for the Brazilians in the 35th minute with a clinical strike between the legs of Keet following another pass from Tau, 2-0.
The Tshwane giants held on in the closing minutes of the half to take the 2-0 lead into the dressing room.
Sundowns skipper Hlompho Kekana had a chance to get the third-goal for the hosts 10 minutes into the second stanza with a free-kick from the edge of the box but his strike could not dip in time to find the target.
Thapelo Morena should have made it 3-0 two minutes after the hour for the Brazilians after he was sent through on goal clear one-on-one with Keet but the Clever Boys shot-stopper kept the scoreline respectable.
Sundowns now only need two more victories in their remaining matches to bag the eight league title.
