Liverpool 4 – 3 Red Bull Salzburg #ChampionsLeague

Champions League holders Liverpool collected their first win of the campaign by edging past Red Bull Salzburg in a seven-goal thriller at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp’s side beat fellow Premier League club Tottenham in last season’s final, but started this term with defeat at Napoli in the opening game.

They were heading for a comfortable victory against Salzburg by going 3-0 up but were pegged back to 3-3 before Mohamed Salah struck.

Sadio Mane opened the scoring against his old club, exchanging passes with Roberto Firmino before coolly stroking in.

Andy Robertson finished off a slick team move, continuing his run and converting from close range via Trent Alexander-Arnold’s low cross.

Salah somehow thumped wide from close range when in on goal but made amends by rolling in the third after goalkeeper Cican Stankovic spilled Firmino’s header.

But Salzburg hit back before half-time through Hee-Chan Hwang’s brilliant effort, turning Virgil van Dijk and smashing into the far corner.

Takumi Minamino, who drilled a low shot narrowly wide in the opening two minutes, pulled another back with a lovely volley and substitute Erling Braut Haaland completed the comeback by tapping in from a couple of yards out before Salah struck.
