A Zimbabwean woman claims her daughter died while sitting in a wheelchair at the Helen Joseph Hospital in Johannesburg.
Nqobile Dube says she had been asked to leave her seriously ill daughter there due to COVID-19 protocols.
She was also told that the staff was looking for a bed for her.
“She waited [overnight] in a wheelchair until she died,” says Dube.
“She was found by me, her mother still seating in the wheelchair [in the waiting room]. Not a single nurse saw that she was dead” she adds.
Dube says she wants justice.
In a recent statement, the Gauteng Health Department noted the death of a 26-year-old patient at the Helen Joseph Hospital. It says an investigation is underway.
