JMPD closely monitoring roads affected by protests

JMPD spokesperson Wayne Minnar says officers will be closely monitoring roads that will be affected by a march by Alexandra residents.

“The routes that will be monitoring will be is the M1 that is the one possibility and also Malboro Drive, those are the possibilities, its likely to be Greyston Drive, the time is not specific because its not a formal protest so for us its about the wait-and-see, however, we have a number of officer on duty”.

Alexandra threatened to bring Sandton to a standstill on Monday.

Residents agreed to embark on a second total shutdown at a community meeting at the weekend.

They claim Joburg Mayor Herman Mashaba has failed to respond to their grievances.

Residents say they are tired of lawlessness, poor service delivery and the increasing number of informal structures in the area.
