Isibaya actress Sphelele Mzimela says that she is working towards a future where her children will not have to support her or pay black tax because she believes that too many relatives are just chilling and waiting for a handout.

“I don’t want the same for my children. I want them to just live their lives because it stagnates our progress a little because we always have to look back. You can’t really look forward because you’re always looking back and dragging others with you.”

She said her problem with the practice is not giving to those who really needed it, but in paying for relatives who were “just chilling at home.”

“They are not working or dying, they are just waiting for you to send the money. We have to do it but it is not something nice because you get family members that are not doing anything to change their lives, they are just waiting for you to be the one who is putting in the money.”

She’s been preaching the gospel of the hustle and hopes her siblings have been listening.

“I always tell my siblings that I can’t be the only one who takes care of our mother. So they have to work hard and finish school. I am vocal about it and always tell my mother she needs to push them. Hopefully, they will come to Joburg for university and work hard.”
