One of the men accused of starting the Alexandra fire has died in the hospital.
According to witness reports, the fire was started as part of a revenge attack against a resident of the area by two men.
The man was reportedly assaulted.
Hundreds of shacks have been destroyed.
Authorities are now ensuring that all residents are accounted for.
Meanwhile, Gauteng Premier David Makhura visited Alexandra on Friday.
Makhura said the province will help residents rebuild their homes before Christmas.
There are appeals for donations of food, water and clothing as many people have lost everything.
