Highlands Park 1–1 Bidvest Wits #AbsaPrem

Bidvest Wits salvaged a point at Highlands Park thanks to a late penalty from Thabang Monare on Tuesday evening.

The Lions of the North made four alterations to the side that drew with Stellenbosch before the FIFA break, with Sifiso Mbhele, Abdul Banda, Sphiwe Mahlangu and Mothobi Mvala all coming to the fray.

Meanwhile, the Clever Boys made a similar number of changes, with goalkeeper Brandon Petersen, Thulani Hlatshwayo, Haashim Domingo and Terrence Dzvukamanja all returning to the starting line-up.

After a fairly quiet first half, Highlands broke the deadlock with four minutes remaining of the first stanza after they were awarded a penalty, which Peter Shalulile drilled home to give Owen Da Gama’s troops the lead going to the break.

The Lions of the North were absorbing the pressure in the early stages of the second stanza, looking to hit Wits on counter-attacks, who were probing for the equaliser.

Da Gama reinforced his attack midway through the second half by bringing on speedy forward Mokete Mogaila in place of midfielder Lindokuhle Mbatha, Tendai Ndoro came on Ramagalela in a straight swap upfront moments later.

The Clever Boys were eventually awarded a penalty in the last minute of the game that was converted by Thabang Monare, who salvaged a share of the spoils for Hunt’s army.
