High Court in Pretoria dismisses bid to close schools

The High Court in Pretoria has dismissed a bid to halt the reopening of schools.

The challenge was brought by the One South Africa Movement, led by former DA leader Mmusi Maimane.

The organisation says children should not continue going to class, as the country grapples with COVID-19.

“It is a disappointing judgment because ultimately we fight to make sure all schools in the country are safe,” said Maimane.

One South Africa Movement also wants the country to return to level 4 of the lockdown.

Maimane added that the legal team will study the judgment before making a decision to appeal.
