Interesting things to know about The River’s Galaletsang Koffman

On screen she’s known for her flamboyant and outspoken character Beauty on 1Magic’s The River, but in reality Galaletsang Koffman is cool, calm and collected.

DRUM caught up with the actress to found out a little more about her and the inspiration behind her on-screen character.

Tell us a little more about your character Beauty and the inspiration behind her storyline?

My character Beauty is a young entrepreneur and she’s an aspiring beautician, salon owner and successor actually. She aspires to be a lot of things just as long as there’s money involved. Her biggest dream is to get out of where she lives and will take any opportunity she gets.

She is vibrant, she’s young, she’s loud and definitely misunderstood.

At the moment Beauty is friends with Andile. She’s likes going out, having a good time and finding the next opportunity.

How do you prepare for the role?

I have an actors’ journal. I journal entry every day so that every time I’m out, especially in public spaces, I like observing people’s interactions, gestures, drive and dialogue. I love going to places and doing research. I like to do thorough research on what makes these people special and finding women like Beauty, how they speak to one another, how they conduct themselves.

What sets Galaletsang apart from Beauty?

Galaletsang Koffman

Reality. We have two very different realities, fortunate for me I had the opportunity to go to school, I was privileged enough to have a mother who provided for me to be able to speak English and Beauty doesn’t. She constantly has to find a plan for herself . . . our circumstances are very different and the way we handle different situations.

I like my work to be my voice, I have done a lot of things before this. I am more into movies than I am into series. I’ve done four mainstream TV appearances actually, The Road, Isithembiso to name a few. I’ve done quite a bit but I’m not the type of person who will be like ‘oh yeah guys go back to that episode I am on there,’ I like for my work to speak for itself.
