She was shy but always knew that she was going to be famous. Her mother remarried when she was in primary school, and her stepfather’s outgoing personality encouraged her to come out of her shell. This is how she started gaining confidence in herself.
She participated in extramural activities such as athletics, singing, and cheerleading but had no interest in school. She spent her days either practicing with her singing group Urram or learning how to play the piano. In matric, she stopped attending school regularly and only went to classes to write tests or exams and submit assignments. Her mother understood that her talent and interest were in the arts.
Although she initially wanted to be an air hostess, she took her mother’s advice and pursued being a pilot instead. She juggled school and theatre classes for three months and then dropped out to focus on theatre full time.
A month later, she saw an advertisement for auditions for SABC youth drama series Hola Mpinji. She went for the auditions and two callbacks later, landed the role of the main character, Pinkie. She received Best Supporting Actress in a drama nomination at the SAFTAs in 2011 for the role.
The show opened many doors for her. These included roles in productions across the SABC such as Fallen, Single Guys, and Generations, as well as on e.tv soapie Scandal!, where she acted for two years.
