MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

To efficiently control and run the plant (tissue machine and virgin stock prep) to produce paper according to the quality specifications and standards laid down for the grade being produced
Monitors pulp quality and make necessary changes for optimum machine runnability. Conduct pulp testing as per set SOP’s
Ensures maximum production is achieved at all times. Operate the plant (tissue machine and virgin stock prep) with the aid of the DCS while troubleshooting to prevent problems from re-occurring
Performs continuous improvement on the tissue paper properties and optimization of the machine settings to reduce energy and operating costs
Ensures correct chemical dosages are applied
Ensures that machine water DAF units are checked and necessary changes made to correct quality
Ensures correct coating chemistry is applied to the Yankee cylinder to protect the cylinder and ensure correct creping of tissue is achieved
Assists the Machine Operators in changing the Yankee creping doctor blade to prevent paper breaks, defects in the sheet without causing damage to the Yankee cylinder
Monitors paper sheet properties and makes the necessary changes to ensure target values of the product specification are achieved. Samples and tests paper according to relevant quality testing procedures and records results in the quality control logbook
Conduct visual inspection on all reels coming off the machine
Removes the spools from the reels and return for use on the machine
Wraps the reels and sends the reels to the finished goods warehouse for storage
Maintain good housekeeping in and around the machine to reduce health and fire risks. Follow formal cleaning procedures relating to the machine area; conduct periodic walkabouts to audit housekeeping requirements and action necessary cleaning
Adherence to safety and Health regulations and execution of duties in accordance with safe work procedures pertaining to the job. Reports to the SPL any defects or incidents noticed that are unsafe or might result in an accident or unnecessary loss
Cooperates with supervisors and fellow team members in order to strengthen the team. Follows all reasonable instructions from his supervisor or superiors

REQUIREMENTS:

Formal Qualifications

Diploma in Pulp and Paper Technology or Chemical Engineering
Knowledge and Experience

1 Year in papermaking environment
Overhead crane and forklift/clamp licences
