Land invasion will not be tolerated: Fikile Mbalula

The ANC says land invasion will never be tolerated in South Africa.

The party’s elections head, Fikile Mbalula, says it’s all systems go for the party’s historic land summit at the weekend.

Mbalula addressed hundreds of people at the launch of the Thuma Mina campaign in Ekurhuleni on Monday.

The campaign seeks to rebuild trust between the ANC and communities.

As the government seeks to settle 1,151 land claims with an R2-billion price tag this financial year, impatience is growing for an acceleration of land redistribution.

But land invasion will not be tolerated, according to Mbalula.

“Where we govern we will expropriate land without compensation [and] give it to our people. We don’t want a land invasion,” he said.

Earlier this year, Parliament adopted a motion supporting land expropriation without compensation.

A constitutional review committee has since been formed to review Section 25 of the constitution and report back to Parliament next month.

To this end, the ANC says the Thuma Mina campaign will aim to improve service delivery.
