Swizz Beats loves AKA’s Fela in Versace

Hip hop Super-producer Swizz Beats might have caught on to the song a little later than most South Africans, but he’s now a certified Fela in Versace fan.

The hitmaker can’t seem to get enough of South Africa right now, following his second visit to our country in 2018. This time around, he was in town to perform at his friend, Black Coffee’s Music is King concert. Swizz brought his finest hip hop Beatz on a night that celebrated some of the most diverse music from across the planet.

Earlier in the year, the producer and rapper visited Mzansi and spent time with local artists and members of the media. He also fell in love with Gqom music (although he’d been a fan before visiting) and gave shout-outs to artists such as Samthing Soweto. This time around, he’s found himself hitting the “repeat” button on AKA’s 2018 mega-hit (no pun intended) and he couldn’t hide how much he was feeling Fela.

Although his American fans seem to be focusing on the giant monkey statue in the room, Mzansi was left buzzing after recognising the song in the background.

Needless to say, AKA was thrilled to receive the co-sign from one of the most influential music producers on the planet

The humble response quickly turned into a humble brag when AKA began to sift through the rest of his morning mentions:

It has been a great week of high-profile endorsements for AKA. The rapper was also praised by Jacob Zuma’s newly-active Twitter account:
