Facebook translation software gets man arrested

A man from Palestian got the shock of his life when he was picked up by Israeli cops because of an innocent Facebook post.

According to Haaretz, the Palestinian construction worker posted a photo of himself relaxing against a bulldozer with a smoke and cup of coffee. He wrote as his caption, “Good morning” in Arabic.

But a mistranslation by the automatic translation software of Facebook resulted in his friendly greeting being translated as “attack them” in Hebrew and “hurt them” in English!

Haaretz reported that the man was arrested by the Judea and Samaria District police without any Arabic-speaking cop first reading the post.

They apparently believed that he was going to use the bulldozer in a hit-and-run terrorist attack.

He was released a few hours later when cops realised their mistake.

The man has since taken the Facebook post down.
