English Premier League

Everton 1 – 1 Leicester City

James Rodriguez scores a stunner as Everton and Leicester played to a 1-all draw. Brendan Rodgers’ side showed plenty of endeavour in the first half but went behind to a James Rodriguez strike after 30 minutes when he curled a right-footed shot into the corner from 20 yards after his first effort rebounded back to him.

Leicester proved their appetite for a Champions League challenge after coming from behind to earn a battling point at Everton.

The hosts finished the first half on top, but Leicester responded in the second half as Jordan Pickford made several saves and Yerry Mina denied James Maddison with an impressive interception.

But the visitors’ pressure eventually led to Youri Tielemans’ low strike, which Pickford got a hand to but failed to keep out. Leicester pressed for a winner although they were fortunate to see late headers sail over from Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

The draw kept the Foxes two points behind leaders Manchester City, and a point behind Manchester United, who suffered a shock 2-1 home defeat by Sheffield United, while Everton remain seventh, two points behind fourth-placed West Ham.
