South Africa is set to receive the final batch of 200,000 Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines as part of the Sisonke Study. The batch is expected to land in the next two weeks. So far the country has received 300,000 doses.
Co-principal investigator for the study, Glenda-Gail Bekker, says the aim is to vaccinate half a million health workers by the end of April.
She also confirmed that government has secured 30-million doses from Johnson & Johnson. Almost 240,000 healthcare workers have now been vaccinated. Bekker says at this point no major adverse side-effects have been identified.
